ARB Midstream DJ Basin Oil Terminal

Oil Terminal Repurposing Electrical Upgrades, Batch Automation & Controls, DJ Basin Freezer Engineering provided full multi-discipline engineering support for the repurposing of an existing DJ Basin oil terminal to capture new marketing margins through modified blending, incoming, and outgoing pipeline configurations. The electrical scope included power capacity upgrades at the transformer and new switchgear installation, along with an updated arc flash study to reflect the modified system. On the controls side, the key technical challenge was process control precision: with variability in incoming product specifications, our team designed and implemented a new batch recipe management system to reliably hit exit product specifications. We developed 3D piping models, ISOs, and BOMs, walked down existing P&IDs, simulated the system, and facilitated the process hazard analysis (PHA). The resulting control system, while technically more sophisticated than its predecessor, was engineered for ease of use giving operations a more intuitive automation interface while delivering the product consistency the marketing team required.
